为别人作嫁衣裳。语本唐．秦韬玉〈贫女〉诗：「苦恨年年压金线，为他人作嫁衣裳。」比喻徒然为他人辛苦。《红楼梦．第九五回》：「见妙玉略有活动，便起身拜了几拜。妙玉叹道：『何必为人作嫁！』」
